Compromise

March 12, 2005

For an idealistic character like me, its hard and sad to admit, but I have to: you have to compromise. In order to get, you have to give.
At this stage of life, when the slope is getting sharper, I am learning that you can not get all you want. In order to get a good share of your ideals, you have to sacrifice, you have to give in, you have to compromise to some extent.
Once in an earlier stage of life I would classify the creatures by their ability to adapt. At the lowest extreme were insects leaded by cock roach: the creatures with the most versatile and amazing ability to adapt with the "status quo": A decapitated cock roach can live up to 10 hours and a cock roach with no food to eat and no water to drink can live up to more than two years. Around a field of nuclear polution, all living creatures: birds, mamals and reptiles were dead, except ants and cock roaches!
On the other extreme, on the peaks of sublime hierarchy was standing "homo erctus" or human being. The creature who tries to change the atmosphere in order to adapt it with himself, rather than altering himself in order to adapt with atmosphere. (and that is why the human being is the single most dangerous creature for the well being of our Mother Earth, and its eco system).
But after passing through the years, I learned that I can not change the world even to the extent of a fraction of my idealism:
هموار خواهی کرد گیتی را؟
گیتی است کی پذیرد همواری
Isn't it sad? It definitely is. Sometimes it takes you to the treshold of insanity. But after all in order to go you have to give. May be the line between the extremes is not such a black and white one. May be some times a man has to learn from a cock roach. And may be sometimes a cock roach has to learn from a man. After all we are all dust in the wind. Are'nt we?
