" Iran is not Iraq - 2"

April 28, 2006
My recent post titled "Iran is not Iraq", which was also published in "Iranian.Com" had some interesting and different reactions. I am posting some of these reactions here just to show how different Iranians and American/Iranians think about this sensitive topic. I would like to emphasize again that the core idea and message behind my idea was to prevent another miserable war and it was intentionally oversimplified to target American audience (not touching the hot spots in the history of two countries relations):

Your essay does not deal with the real issues.
-During World War 2 Americans and the Allied forces occupied Iran.
-The Americans and the Allied Powers forced Reza Khan to abdicate in the 1940s.
-The Americans overthrew the government of Mohammad Mossadegh in the 1950s.
-Americans manipulated Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and then sent him on vacation in 1979.
-During the Reagan Administration America while the US Navy was in the Arabian Gulf (National Geographic's Language), the Navy shot down an Iranian passenger air plane and killed all the passengers and flight crew. The Navy personnel who ordered the plane to be shot down was awarded by the US president for his actions. What did Iranians do? They burned the U.S. flag. Why? Because they hate the U.S.
As a result Iranians in Iran hate America. They are pissed off because:
-Americans have a better life.
-Americans are by far more wealthy.
-Americans Shit on Iran. In the early 1980s there was a cartoon with Mickey Mouse that displayed his middle finger and the caption of Mickey Mouse said "Hey look Iran, this message is for you." By the way, Mickey Mouse was holding an American flag in the other hand.
Furthermore, Americans don't give a fuck if Iranians are Arab or not. They just want their oil. US businesses want Iranian oil dirt cheap. Due to the 27 year US embargo against Iran there has been no direct import of Iranian oil to the US. What do the US oil companies think of this? They are pissed of mad at Iran.
And Iranians hate the US because the US government doesn't want to buy from them.
Carter said Iran was opposed to Human Rights.
Reagan and Bush called Iranians barbarians.
Clinton called Iran a rouge state.
Bush called Iran an axis of Evil.
Face it, Americans hate Iran and Iranians. And Iranians wish they were Americans but feel short changed by the U.S. so they hate Iran.
I hope I have explained the real deal.

The sentiment of your piece is well put, except that you're a bit on the naive side if you think Iran -- better put, the Iranian regime, has not waged a sort of hot and cold war against US interest around the world since 1979.
In fact, the bombing of the marine barracks in 1983, which killed 253 marines, was carried out by the right arm of the akhunds, i.e., the Hezbollah. Further, the Kobar Towers was bombed by Iranian agents, which killed 19 Americans. Further, Iranian agents were responsible for the killing of American Jews in the Jewish embassy bombing in Argentina. I can go on and on, where the regime in Iran has used "proxies" to fight the US, and in many instances, this sort of "dirty" street fight has entailed the spilling of American blood.
The truth is, this repugnant, anti-Iranian regime in Iran has destroyed the reputation of a once-proud and noble country. We were once known as empire builders and poets, a rather interesting combination. Today, we're known as a terrorist nation. And we only have ourselves to blame.

I just read you article in iranian.com and enjoyed that. Thanks for writing this article.
I think one of my articles is interesting for you:

As an American Iranian I disagree with your opinion.
Iran ruled by these fanatics should not under any
circumstances have any nuclear bombs. That's like
buying the school bully a gun as a birthday gift, and
thanks to America to use the first atomic bomb on the
those fascist to show the world that nuclear
technology is no joke and that ended the war. I do
agree that there are bad guys who profit from politics
but I'd rather be nuked than ruled by these freaking
mullahs. And last but not least to me Arab, Persians
and Jews are the same only belong to different clubs.
Only a racist would come up with this bullshit.

You write and interesting article, and you write pretty well too. As I was reading your article I noticed you have mentioned that
“Iraqis are mostly Arabs, Iranians are not. They are a rainbow nation of Persians, Kurds, Azeries, Turkmens, Lurs, Baluchis, and some Arabs who have coexisted peacefully for thousands of years.”
I am highlighting the end of your sentences because as it appears you believe we coexisted with the ARABS and you forgot to mention that they concoured us for the 300 years during the Islamic Conquest. Also if I recall Persian Empire had a existing border with the Roman Empire, so that makes the Arabs part of our rich community. So the above sentence should read to everyone as follows;
“Iraqis are mostly Arabs, Iranians are not. Iranians are Fars, Kurds, Azeries, Turkmens, Lurs, Baluchis, and Arabs who have glorified this peaceful culture for thousands of years.”
I did not mean anything personal, just a little clarification.

Dear Neghneghoo,
I read your article and I am agreeing with most of them. We should not forget for more than 27 years the IRR has a policy of brainwashing of our nation for political purposes.
As far as I know, we are not against any people or nation before 1979.
The only Government in the world which is policy of hate is their aim and goal is IRR. The base of propaganda against other nations is keeping the power in their hand and ruling the mind of Iranians at all levels.
I also read some of the comments; some of them were impersonation of “Uncle Napoleons”, and blaming everyone except ourselves.
We started to abuse them, we did the hostage taking and we burnt their flag.
In my opinion their recent negative reaction against our wrong doing is logic. Americans are not perfect but, are we?

It seems to me that the revolution was like a mental suicide for our nation, with its bitter ripple effect encompassing the future generations including my own. We surely are confused and scattered (both ideologically and physically). I wonder what could ever bring us together ever again.
